Cummins Engine Nameplate
The engine nameplate shows specific information about the engine. The Engine Serial Number (ESN) (1), Control Parts List (CPL) (2), Model Number (3), Horsepower Rating, and RPM Rating (4) provide the information needed to order parts and obtain service. Older K38 and K50 engine nameplates are located on the rear right row of the engine. The current K38 and K50 engine nameplate is located on the left row of the front gear cover.
Cummins® Engine Designation
The engine model gives the identification data of the engine. For model identification, refer to the illustration.
The application type code is as follows:
C = building
D = generator drive
F = fire pump
G= generator set
L = pulling locomotive
M = marine
P = power unit
R = railroad locomotive
Cummins Fuel Pump nameplate
Equipped with mechanically actuated injectors
Calibration of the fuel pump requires the use of specialized equipment and must be performed at a Cummins® Authorized Repair Station.
The fuel pump nameplate is located on top of the fuel pump.
The fuel pump nameplate provides fuel pump calibration information.
Equipped with electric injectors
The Cummins® Modular Common Rail System nameplate is located on the high pressure fuel pump side of the engine. The nameplate contains the following information.
serial number
date code
Cummins®® part numbers.
Cummins ECM nameplate
Equipped with mechanically actuated injectors
The external nameplate is located on top of the Electronic Control Module (ECM).
The nameplate contains the following information:
Part Number
serial number
manufacturer date code
Supplier ID
The input voltage rating of the Electronic Control Module (ECM).
Equipped with electric injectors
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) nameplate contains information about the ECM and how to program the ECM. The nameplate is located on the front of the ECM.
The following information can be obtained from the ECM nameplate:
ECM part number (PN)
ECM serial number (SN)
ECM Date Code (DC)
Engine Serial Number (ESN)
ECM code (identifies ECM software)
