Application Guide for Engine Power for Generator Sets

This guideline is used to guide the selection of alternator sets to install the engine for the generator set with the appropriate power application. Generator set engines are not suitable for variable frequency DC generator set applications!

Standby power—used only for emergency power stations to provide emergency power. No overload capability. The cumulative running time per year shall not exceed 200 hours and the average load shall not exceed 80% of the standby power. Among them, the operation at the standby power point shall not exceed 25 hours per year. Continuous Power – Used to provide utility power. Operates at a constant 100% continuous power load for unlimited hours per year. No overload capability.

Prime Power – Used to provide electricity in lieu of commercial electricity. Applies to the following two categories: v

1. Unlimited running basic power

Unlimited annual operation with variable loads. The average load of the variable load shall not exceed 70% of the normal power during any continuous 250-hour operation period.

The running time under 100% common power condition shall not exceed 500 hours per year.

In any continuous 12-hour operation cycle, 10% overload operation is allowed for 1 hour. The operating time at 10% overload capacity shall not exceed 25 hours per year.

2. Time-limited basic power

Annual operation for a limited period of time under constant load. The engine may run 750 hours per year at loads not exceeding normal power. The service life of any engine running at constant high loads will be reduced. Constant duty operation in excess of 750 hours per year should use the continuous power model.
