Caterpillar announces new Cat C13D diesel engine

At the just-concluded 2023 Las Vegas International Construction Machinery Show, Caterpillar announced the launch of a new 13-liter diesel engine platform – Cat® (Cat) C13D, which is designed to achieve greater power density, More torque and improved fuel efficiency to optimize engine performance in high-load off-road applications.

The inline six-cylinder Cat® C13D engine platform will provide eight power ratings from 340kW to 515kW and peak torque up to 3,200Nm, meeting Caterpillar’s high standards for equipment reliability and efficiency. The aftertreatment and cooling system of the engine can be installed at the factory to reduce the installation and verification cost of the main engine manufacturer. C13D can meet higher emission standards, such as EU Stage V, US EPA Tier 4 Final, China Nonroad Stage IV emission standards, Korea Stage V and Japan 4f (2014) emission standards, and models for low emission standard markets are available .

Cat® C13D delivers power and torque equivalent to Caterpillar’s current production 13-liter, 15-liter and single-turbo 18-liter engine platforms, enabling OEMs to reduce engine size, simplify design, assembly, and optimize supply chain to suit a variety of applications offers the possibility.

The Cat® C13D engine is scheduled to enter production in 2026 and can be used in a variety of off-highway equipment. Compared with the previous generation Cat engine of the same level, the new C13D engine has a 20% increase in power and a 25% increase in low-speed torque. The new design enables the C13D engine to operate at an altitude of 3658 meters (twice that of a traditional Cat engine) and in extreme environments of 60 degrees Celsius and -40 degrees Celsius.
