September 29, 2021, Sichuan • Chengdu, Cummins today released its newly developed 15L China VI heavy-duty engine products for the global market. With 48% mass production thermal efficiency and 680 horsepower maximum power, the two “killers” will help the logistics industry fully enter a “new era” in terms of power, TCO (total life cycle cost), and efficient customization.
The theme of this event is “Power Allure, Harness the Heart”. In addition to product releases, Cummins also invited more than 70 top domestic transportation industry customers to discuss future power trends, and test-drive the heavy-duty truck models equipped with the latest 15L engine. Cai Jin, President of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, Wang Yang, President of Yunlian Media, Wang Kaijun, Vice President of Cummins and General Manager of Engine Division, Steve Saxby, CTO of Cummins China, Xu Daqian, General Manager of Dongfeng Cummins, Foton Cummins Chen Hua, general manager, Yang Xiaodong, general manager of Xi’an Cummins, as well as media and customer guests attended the event.
At present, the power selection of the global logistics industry is trending towards high-horsepower, low-fuel consumption and high-efficiency power. The 15L engine has become the mainstream power configuration for trunk logistics in the international long-distance market. In China, the choice of medium and long-distance logistics power also has a significant trend of upgrading from 13L. Through in-depth cooperation with domestic first-tier vehicle companies, Cummins took the lead in launching this 15L engine that meets the National VI B standard, which just meets the new demand for this power segment in the domestic commercial vehicle market.
Chairman Cai Jin said: “At present, the upward trend of China’s logistics industry is obvious, and the launch of Cummins’ 15-liter high-horsepower engine is just in time. This is a high-quality upgrade of power equipment in the logistics industry and an innovative breakthrough that leads the industry. For the logistics industry, it is about to enter a new stage of high-quality development, from reducing costs, expenses and price competition to making up for shortcomings, focusing on quality, and improving quality and efficiency. An important measure for carbon targets. Green and efficient logistics has become a common development goal for the entire industry.”
The Cummins 15L engine will be the first to be installed on domestic first-tier heavy truck products such as Dongfeng, Foton Daimler and Shaanxi Automobile, and will become an important driving force in the logistics market segments such as long-distance trunk lines and LTL express. As one of the most important logistics distribution centers in China, Chengdu is bordered by Yunnan and Guizhou in the south, Qinghai and Tibet in the west, Qinling Mountains in the north, and Bashan in the east.
Choosing to release the 15L engine under Qingcheng Mountain in the western suburbs of Chengdu, Cummins has full confidence:
First of all, whether it is the previous Cummins 13L or 14L power, it has a good reputation in the southwest market, and Cummins has many years of 15L engine research and development experience in North America, and its products are well-known all over the world. Ingenuity on the shoulders of giants;
Secondly, Cummins and domestic partners Dongfeng, Foton and Shaanxi Automobile worked together on research and development, which lasted for 5 years. After big data analysis, customization for specific working conditions made the products of OEMs even more powerful; in addition, Cummins intelligent country VI power platform launched two Over the years, diesel engine sales have been leading the industry, and the reliability of the National VI technology platform has been widely recognized by the market.
“The National VI 15L engine launched today is another ‘Epoch-making’ high-efficiency transportation power tailored by Cummins for China’s logistics industry. So far, Cummins has a range from 2.5L to 15L, from diesel to natural gas in China. The comprehensive National VI power solutions can meet the diverse power needs of customers.” Wang Kaijun said at the event.
At the launch site, Steve Saxby and Suo Guotao (left), chief engineer of Cummins China Engine Division, gave a comprehensive explanation of the technical advantages of the newly launched 15L National VI engine:
Efficient power
The maximum power output is 680PS/3200N m, the maximum braking power is 612PS, the lifting power is as high as 47PS, the acceleration performance is improved by 16%, and the climbing performance is improved by 20%. A New Era of Power”.
Fuel efficient and reliable
The thermal efficiency of mass production reaches 48%, and the fuel economy can be improved by up to 12%. The Down Speed of the power chain is optimized to achieve lower fuel consumption at the same speed and faster speed at the same fuel consumption. The longest oil change cycle is 150,000 kilometers. The self-weight of 1 ton, combined with the intelligent brain 2.0 of Cummins National VI Power and the industry-leading high-horsepower compression brake, create a “new era of TCO”.
Tailored
According to the product positioning of users of different OEMs, customization is carried out in the development stage, and the overall performance is maintained, while the differentiated characteristics are exerted; for different working conditions, the engine settings can be adjusted through pre-factory or remote calibration and upgrade, which is more suitable for Actual working conditions; customized services and data tools for different customer needs, improve service efficiency and user experience, and create a “new era of customization”.
Before the press conference, Cummins cooperated with Dongfeng, Foton and Shaanxi Automobile, three media, “Truck Home”, “China Truck Network” and “Super Commercial Vehicle”, as well as three logistics companies and three industry opinion leaders, from Shanghai, Xinxiang, Henan, and Kunming, Yunnan, “Three Arrows”, with Chengdu as the end point, carried out a road test journey of up to 4,500 kilometers with actual goods, actual vehicles, and actual testing.
Through three targeted actual road tests, the performance improvement brought by the Cummins 15L engine to the vehicle, as well as the operational efficiency, customization, and TCO value improvement brought to customers are fully demonstrated. These customers and opinion leaders were also invited to participate in the efficient logistics forum held together with the launch event, as well as a special test drive event to jointly test the performance of the Cummins 15L engine on the vehicle.
