Why do we need to do daily maintenance of air filter element?

Cummins Fleetguard Air Filter
The correct maintenance of the air filter element can ensure the air filter element is not damaged by dust to the greatest extent. The correct maintenance can improve the service life and effect of the air filter element, so as to help users save time and money.
Two common problems occur during maintenance:

One is the excessive maintenance of the air filter element. Because with the accumulation of dust, the filtering effect of the new air filter element will gradually improve. Do not be confused by the appearance of the dusty air filter element and carry out excessive maintenance. You should know that the air filter element should be like this. Through the blockage indicator on the air filter, the user can ensure maximum filtration efficiency and filter element life. (See picture on next page)

Second, the air filter element is improperly maintained. Precision engines are susceptible to dust damage during maintenance. Therefore, engine damage is most likely to occur during improper maintenance.

Daily maintenance

Check to ensure that all connections between the air filter and the engine are sealed, both during daily inspections and during refueling. This includes all hose connections and the top cover of the empty filter. The dust valve is always kept straight down to facilitate dust removal. Any exceptions should be handled immediately.

When do I need to clean and maintain the main filter element?

The external filter element should be cleaned every 6000-8000 km or when the blocking indicator light is on (6.2kpa). The cleaning interval must be shortened in dusty or dirty environments. Simple visual inspection often leads to overmaintenance of filter elements and therefore cannot be used as a judgment criterion.

Excessive filter element maintenance will not only increase the maintenance cost, time and material investment, but also more likely to lead to dust filter pollution, including excessive maintenance resulting in filter element damage, improper filter element installation, and initial filtration efficiency.

1. Remove the top cover
2. Take out the main filter element carefully to avoid dust falling into the empty filter shell
3. Tap the end cover of the filter element to shake off the dust
4. Clean the surface of the filter element from inside to outside with compressed air with pressure no more than 0.5mpa along the bevel Angle.
5. Check whether the inner and outer filter paper surface, lining plate and sealing ring of the filter element are damaged. Replace any damaged parts found
6. Clean the inside of the air filter. Clean the inside of the air filter with a dry cloth dampened with water. Visually check to make sure there is no dust inside before placing the new filter element.
7. Reinstall the main filter element to ensure smooth spacer placement. If the gasket is not put properly, it means that the seal is not good and can not protect the engine. Ensure that filter elements and washers are properly installed and tightened
